Whew..Finally back in the home office.

Was up in Minnesota last week - so decided to link to a college up there

So here's a link to Herzing College. They seem to have a pretty interesting focus on the medical and dental fields at their lakeland campus.

Of particular interest to me was the Dental Hygiene program since my wife is a Dental Hygienist. She really enjoys her job (well as much as you can when you spend your days cleaning teeth I guess). She actually makes more money per hour than I do. But of course we live in a state where Dental Hygienists are required to have a degree and be certified (other states that don't have that requirement pay a lot less for dental hygienists PLUS you don't get a very good teeth cleaning).

On another note - a friend of mine works for a company that's finishing up a new College Search Engine. (not sure If i should link to it yet since it's not 100% done yet - but figure with my small readership - it shouldn't be too big an issue. Not like I'm Penny Arcade or anything.) A lot of those College Search systems out there also add you to a huge spam email list so I don't like to a lot of them - but this one I know is spam-free and they're database is definetly growing.

Had some trouble with the home computer last night (blue screen of death) but after I got it up and working again - i did a little digging around late last night for job outlook info and found this website.

America's Job Market

Look's like it's still in the process of being built (what with several navigation tabs still blank and a space that's marked for where advertisements are going to go). But it currently has some pretty darn good information about job descriptions, salaries and job outlooks in the technology and health sectors including several popular career choices such as Network Administation, Medical Assistant, Dental Hygienist, and Information Systems Management.

Definetly worth checking out if you're interested in any of those.

Career Colleges of Chicago new website

So as i was digging around looking for HVAC schools earlier today - I happened to notice that Career Colleges of Chicago got a brand new look to their website.

If you ever saw the old one - you'll know what a big deal it is for them to update.

The new site is a lot easier on eyes however some of the graphics seem a little blurry to me. One interesting feature is how the main picture of a person in the middle seems to rotate randomly. Refresh any of the pages a few times and you'll see what I mean.

Well after a short false start of missing yesterday - let's kick off today with some talk about one of the most prominently featured trade schools you see ads for these days:

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Repair

Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR/HVAC) technicians are responsible for installing and maintaining heating and cooling units for businesses and residences. Heating and cooling systems are becoming more advanced as time goes on, so the more training a technicians has, the better his or her job opportunities will be. The HVAC training consists mostly of basic knowledge in plumbing and electrical work, familiarity with terminology and products, familiarity with government regulations and the ability to work well with other people.

Most schools offer six-month to two-year programs.

Job outlooks is solid all over the country. Installation work can slow down during certain times of the year, but maintenance work is in demand year-round.

A trained HVAC mechanics can usually expect to earn approximately $17.00 an hour, depending on location, qualification and experience.
